History of hacienda in Banos, Tungurahua, Ecuador

HISTORY

It all started in 1987 when we established the first Regine's Café Aleman providing the town of Baños with some real authentic German cuisine. In this cosy, small and inviting town we maintained two businesses including a shop selling locally handmade artisan products. In 1999, however, volcanic activity from Tungurahua meant we had to evacuate Baños, an event affecting inhabitants and tourists alike.

The construction of Finca Chamanapamba began back in 1995 and was finally resumed in June 2000. When this arduous undertaking was eventually behind us, November 2004 saw the inauguration of the all-new Regine's Café Restaurant Aleman, offering hospitality at the foot of the Cascada Chamana waterfall surrounded by beautiful landscape on the outskirts of Baños.

Up until 2004, access to our hacienda in Baños proved difficult. Due to the incline of the terrain, access was only possible in a four-by-four Jeep after heavy rains. By sheer luck just before the inauguration of the new establishment, the Provincial Council decided to undertake road works in the area to improve the quality of the roads with gravel and paving slabs. Chamanapamba Hotel's infrastructure is now well developed and access to the cabañas proves much easier.
